Today, PMs are expected to deliver outcomes while also navigating transformation, coaching teams, supporting emotional dynamics, and managing cross‑functional complexity. It’s a challenging balance, but also an exciting time for the profession.In the past few months, I’ve observed a few themes across major projects:
🔹 AI is accelerating delivery, but it’s also raising the bar for PMs to focus more on decision‑making, stakeholder alignment, and risk anticipation.
🔹 Cross‑functional collaboration is no longer optional — telecommunications, cloud, cybersecurity, and business teams are more intertwined than ever.
🔹 Leadership expectations are shifting from task-based management to influence, adaptability, and conflict navigation.

Such a great reflection, Dr. Suman. I really agree with the shift you’re describing; especially how AI is pushing PMs away from task execution and more into decision-making, judgment, and stakeholder alignment.
The emphasis on influence, emotional dynamics, and cross-functional leadership feels very real in day-to-day project work. Exciting, but definitely raises the bar for our skill set going into 2026.

Couldn’t agree more, there can be several registers, checkboxes or frameworks to measure and evaluate risks. However, if no strategy or actions are developed, all of those tools remain superfluous.
bsolutely — risk management fails the moment it becomes a checkbox exercise. Real risks are the ones that stay in conversation, shape decisions, and drive proactive action. If risks aren’t influencing choices, they’re not being managed — they’re just documented and forgotten.

Most companies care first about your delivery track record. PMP won’t replace real-world experience, but it adds credibility and helps you stand out, especially in larger organisations or PMO-driven environments. Think of it as an amplifier, not a requirement.
If you’re already managing projects, PMP just formalises and sharpens what you’re doing
